● Meeting Hall Construction Update as of December 1, 2011

  1. The roofing is now being installed. We are using a roofing system that absorbs noise from airplanes to a barely audible extent.

  2. The City of Richmond is working on the water connection. This is to supply clean water to the building.

  3. Two street lampposts have been installed along the sidewalk. We are still waiting for BC Hydro to move the electric pole fronting our driveway.

  4. The steelworks for the second floor and the stairs are now being prepared and installation will start on Monday, December 5.

● Meeting Hall Construction Update as of November 10, 2011

  1. The structural steel framework for the roof and second floor is in progress.

  2. The remaining stretch of sidewalk has been paved with concrete.

  3. FortisBC has already realigned the gas main, and the remaining portion of the storm sewer has been installed.

  4. The documents granting BC Hydro and Telus the statutory right of way to install power, phone, and cable lines on our property have been signed, notarized, and forwarded for registration at the Land Title Office. BC Hydro has to move the electric pole that stands in the middle of our driveway and make design changes for electric connections.

  5. Works on the interior and exterior of the building, the parking lot, mechanical and plumbing installation, are progressing rapidly. We need to intensify our prayers for each stage of the building to be accomplished in due time and with sufficient finances. May we serve as the channels for the Lord to pour out His blessings.

● Saints Visit

Brothers from many parts of Canada and two brothers from the U.S. visited the construction site on Saturday afternoon. The general contractor's chief of operations was on hand to explain the construction project and answer questions from the brothers.

Photo shows a view of the main meeting hall looking towards the central lobby.

This is a view of the main entrance into the central lobby. The main hall is to the left.
The structural frames and steel columns for the roof and the second floor are still being installed.

  • Meeting hall construction update, as of October 30, 2011

    1. The structural steel for the roof and the second floor has been delivered as of Thursday.
    2. Workers began installing the structural framework on Friday. This process is expected to take about weeks.
    3. So far, we have consulted two audio-visual equipment companies regarding our sound and video requirements.
    4. We are considering LED lighting for energy savings. It is crucial that we find the right supplier to provide us with adequate technological and support services.

● Meeting Hall Construction Update as of October 28, 2011

1. Praise the Lord! The tilt-up wall panels were lifted and placed in position within 3 days, from October
    26 to 28.
2. With the completion of this important aspect, the next step to be done this week is the installing of the
    structural steel frame.
3. After the panels have been welded to the foundation slab, to one another, and to the structural frame, the
temporary braces will be taken down. Work on the roof will be next, followed by the pouring of
concrete for the slab of the second floor.
4. We are one month ahead of schedule. Payments will also become due sooner. May the Lord fulfill His
work in us to supply what we need. We thank and praise Him for His faithfulness.

Attached (above picture) is the latest view of the meeting hall.

All the wall panels (double-reinforced concrete panels formed on site horizontally) were tilted up within three days, October 26 to 28.
The picture was taken from the opposite side of Brown Road.

Starting the first week of November, the structural steel frame will be constructed over the wall panels at the top, after which the roof will be installed.

We hope the brothers who will be attending the Canada Brothers Conference can come to the construction site after lunch on Saturday, November 5.
The general contractor's top brass will be available on site to give us a guided tour of the building-in-progress. I just have to confirm the time with them
after the brothers decide on when to visit the site.

All the wall panels have been placed in position. This video shows the west sector of the building, which will be separated into two floors. The second floor will be built later after the structural steel frame is installed. Rectangular notches along the west wall are the points where floor joists will be connected to the wall. Braces temporarily hold the panels in place until they are welded to the floor slab and the roof frames.

Wednesday, October 26, 2011, amidst the rain, workers began as early as 7:00 a.m. to lift the wall panels up. In a designated order,  6 panels were put in place by 9:30 a.m.

The sky had cleared by late afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 26. The crane had been moved inside to raise and install the panels on the entire east wall and most of the south wall. Photo was taken from across the street.

● Meeting Hall Construction Update as of October 23, 2011

  1. Under a sunny sky on October 19, the pouring of concrete on the second set of wall panels proceeded smoothly.
  2. On Thursday and Friday, the steel braces for lifting the wall panels were laid in place, ready for the panels to be erected by a crane.
  3. The wall panels will be installed on Tuesday or Wednesday this week. Saints who wish to witness this operation may come to the site to observe. You man park your cars at a safe distance from the site, near the corner of Cambie Road, or at the parking lot of the school on Odlin Crescent.
  4. From this point on, the construction will proceed faster and so will the payments for the works accomplished. May the Lord increase our capacity and cause His blessings to abound to the church in all our practical needs.
